The word tradition is greatly associated with scouting. Scouting has a tradition of which it can be justifiably proud and a reputation for both integrity and responsibility that descends from its founder Baden Powell. As a movement it is renowned for its ‘scoutcraft’ traditions, such as fire lighting, tent pitching, bivouac building, rucksack packing, flag practice, map reading, knotting, lashings and first aid. As a troop, 2nd Monkspath, we encourage all such traditions to take place across regular troop nights and camps. However, at 2nd Monkspath ‘scoutcraft’ traditions do not just take place as part of badge earning lessons but as part of exciting and eventful activities.

Scout camp
Tradition plays a big role within the 2nd Monkspath troop, with the traditional enrolment as an introductory ceremony welcoming all new members and flag break and flag down to officially start and end every troop night and day on camp. The leaders of the troop promote the older scouts to conduct the chief scout challenge award and every new member to follow a badge earning system to gain every major badge from the pathfinder award up to the chiefs scouts award. Summer Camp is a camp that forms a unique annual tradition to 2nd Monkspath. Every year the leaders organise a major camp that takes place over a week’s period involving activities chosen by each of its scouts.
